Due to the closure of Borden Ave to assist in the
installation of water and sewer for the new residences in this area Tier 2 buses
will not be able to access General Lake Public School lay-by effective
October 22, 2013 - November 1st
for pick-up and drop-off.
The route the buses will be taking to drop off and pick
up students is as follows:
Vehicles will need to access General Lake P.S. by turning
onto Borden Ave off of Dundonald Dr. Once the vehicles are traveling on Borden
Ave they will proceed to 2080 Borden Ave where they will make a left hand turn
at the parking lot entrance onto a gravel road provided by the construction
company connecting the PMQ lot and the teacher parking lot (a flag-man will be
provided to assist in this detour). The gravel section of the detour will be
in effect for an estimate of two days and then the drivers will be able to enter
the teacher’s parking lot via the paved entrance until the end of
construction. They will proceed into the teachers parking lot (which will be
kept clear of parked vehicles) and drop off students at the school (where a
staff member will be waiting) and then turn around in the lot.
We ask that parents not drive on Borden Ave in front of the
school to either drop off or pick their kids up on these days given the increase
in bus traffic that they instead use the entrance at the back of the school by
the play structure and parking lot numbered 1690-1711 Borden Ave accessed off
Wolfe Ave. We also ask that you advise parents and guardians that there may be
a slight delay in drop off times in the afternoon for all students
getting bused from General Lake P.S. due to the detour on the dates
specified.
Our recommendations for walkers/ cyclists are as
follows:
- Students that are approaching on Borden Ave coming from the direction of Wolfe Ave should be advised that they are to use the entrance into the school yard at the back of the school by the play structure and parking lot numbered 1690-1711 Borden Ave.
- Students that are coming onto Borden Ave from Dundonald Dr are to enter the school via the teachers parking lot and are advised to use extra caution as there will be more bus traffic on these days as the buses will be using this portion of Borden Ave to go to and from General Lake P.S. Please advise parents they may want to consider supervising walker/bikers on these days as there will be a lot of heavy equipment and a big hole where they would normally cross.
