Welcome Back to General Lake for the 2013-2014 School Year. It’s going to be an exciting year as we recognize the past traditions and history of our great school and we anticipate the day we will walk through the doors of our new K-12 school Valour.
Our first day is Sept 3 for all of our Senior Kindergarten to Grade 8 students. The day begins at 9:20. Students are welcome to join us on the yard when supervision begins at 9:00.
Our new Junior Kindergarten students will begin at 10:00 am, either on Sept 3 or Sept 4, with presentations in the gym. Parents should have received a letter in the mail, as to their respective start day. Some of our community representatives, as well as some support staff will be on hand to give information to our parents about the various programs. Our teachers will come into the gym and pick up their assigned Junior kindergarten students so they can continue their first exciting day of learning back in the classroom. Please consult the blog for more information on our Opening day.
Other students, SK to Grade 8, will enter the building at the bell through their previous year door. For our new students, as well as our returning Grade 1’s, they can enter through the front entrance. We will all meet in the gym at 9:20 for a brief welcome and introductions of our new staff. Teachers will call the names of their classes beginning with the Grade 8’s. Teachers will spend time in the morning reviewing class rules, as well as showing students where they will be lining up. I invite our Grade 8 leaders to arrive 10 minutes early to assist with our welcoming procedures.
Just a reminder that we are a Nut free environment, so don't forget to check all items coming into the school to ensure they are peanut free. Also please label all 'WOW butter' sandwiches to ensure there is no mistake and undue stress placed on students who have an allergy.

At the end of the day, all bussed students will be dismissed through the front entrance. All walking students in the K-2 French Immersion will be dismissed through the front entrance door. All English walking students from K-2 will be dismissed through the side door on the north side of the school (right of front entrance when entering school). Parents picking up students should ensure they identify themselves to the teacher prior to taking their child. All 3-8 students will be dismissed though their assigned doors. Due to our increased safety measures, parents are asked to wait outside the school.
