sunday message OCT 14

Good evening. Deb Legault with your update from  General Lake Public School for this week.

It's a busy week beginning with our  food drive 'We Scare Hunger', formally known as Halloween for Hunger.   It is part of our local initiative on our action plan for Free the Children.  Students can bring in cans for school spirit points.  Canned foods are then placed in bin in the front of the school.  Students can also be part of this initiative by trick or treating for cans on Halloween night. An information package will go home with interested students this week. All cans to be donated to a local food bank.

On Monday, Oct 15 all LaMontagne orders are due. Student verification forms are also due so we can update our records with emergency contacts.  If there are not any changes, please indicate this on the form.   Students may also wish to wear hot pink or blue to promote awareness for the harmful effects of cyber-bullying.

On Tuesday Oct 16 Our Cross Country run will be cancelled, as I will be away.  We will be back on Thursday in full force striving for our personal best.

On Thursday Oct 17 all photo orders are due to the office.

On Friday, Oct 18  it is our hot lunch pizza.  It's a crazy week, so lets end the week with a crazy hair spirit day.

Under the initiative of one of our Grade 5 students, we are holding a penny drive until December to support the work of the SPCA. Send those pennies along.  A collection jar is available in the front entrance.

Also mark calendars for Nov 3 as the Parent Involvement Committee presents their annual PIC Symposium at Fellowes High School from 9-3.  Special guest this year is Olympic medal winner Elizabeth Manley, who speaks out on her struggles with mental illness.   Free childcare, light breakfast and lunch is provided as well as workshops on destination imagination, free the children, collaborative problem solving and wellness and alternative stress management.  I hope everyone can try to make it out to this wonderful and informative event.  More information will be sent out shortly about registration.

A Volunteer form went home on Friday outlining some of the opportunities available for our parent community. If you can offer any time to help in our school coaching teams, teaching chess, supporting us in any of the ways outlined on the form, or if you have an idea of your own, please return the form by Friday. We would love to have your help.

Finally mark your calendar for Nov 17 for our Craft and Gift show.  More details to follow.
Thank you and enjoy the rest of your evening.
