Walk-in Counselling at Phoenix Centre beginning March 18th.

The Phoenix Centre for Children & Families will be opening a walk-in counselling service on March 18th 2014. This service can be accessed by children and youth from birth up until their 18th birthday and/or their parents. This will be a weekly service that will take place on Tuesdays from 3:00pm until 8:00pm. Clients entering the centre later than 7:00pm may not be seen (priority will be given the next week for those who cannot be seen). Unlike a medical walk-in clinic, this service will not require a health card. Participants must live in Renfrew County or go to school in Renfrew county. It is important to note that children who are younger than 12 years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian and in the case of a custody arrangement/dispute proof of full custody or written consent from the other custodial parent must be provided in order for the child to be seen by a therapist. If the youth is 12 years or older than he or she may be seen without a parent/guardian’s consent. The goal of the walk-in service is to provide families with immediate assistance focused on one specific topic in a single session of solution-focused therapy. One session will typically be enough for parents and youth however they may access the walk-in service up to three times in a period of six months. If a client has accessed the service three times in a period of six months or less they will be asked if they would like to go on our waitlist for more long-term services. Walk-In Therapy is not meant to replace longer term services. Walk-In Therapy flyer and Parental Consent Forms are available from the school.
