Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day
On November 11, 2011 staff, students and parents joined together to show their respect to our military heroes. The Student-led Service began with an entrance from our official flagbearers, Liam Jobe and Matthew Wallace. Then the Masters of Ceremonies, Taylor Sullivan-McElroy and Cortlin Docken took over with inspiring words about courage and peace. The program included a moving reading of ‘ In Flander's Fields’ by Daryl Sullivan-McEnroy and MacKenzie Dunham; poetry readings from Ms Graham's Core English classes, and an original song from Mrs. Langille's Grade 5/6 Class. The Service ended as students paraded silently by 'Our Heroes' tribute and gave a quiet thank-you to all those that have served proudly for our country. Thank you to Mrs. Grant for providing the decorations, Mrs. Marquardt's class for leading the Service; and Ms Legault for coordinating the efforts. A special thank-you to all the parents who were able to join us in observance of this very special day. Also, as part of a General Lake tradition, students entered the Royal Canadian Legion’s poetry and poster contest. Congratulations to Ryan Muise, 2nd Place Primary; Kaylee Granter, 1st place Colour Primary; Grace Elizabeth McLean, 1st place Intermediate Poetry; Danielle Edwards, 1st place Junior Poetry; Morgan Verjans, 3rd place Black and White Intermediate; Erin Stacey 2nd place Black and White Intermediate; Mitchell Smith, 2nd place Black and White Primary; Sydney Robinson 3rd place Colour Intermediate; Remi Lavoie, 3rd place Colour Junior; Katie Williams 1st place Colour Intermediate; and Melora Twomey, 2nd place Colour Intermediate.
