Wed Night Reminder June 19


Good evening.  Just a quick reminder from General Lake Public School that the Grade 3-8 students have a mini we day in the morning. Donations to Cpan, General Panet’s Humanitarian trip, local food bank and gently used snow suits will be accepted.
Also tomorrow evening from 4:30-6:30 come on out and join the family fun for our annual year end celebration  There will be music, balloons, face-painting, bouncy castles and much more. Come on out and join the free event. Hotdogs, popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase.

Each year, parents have sought recommendations regarding the nature 
and type of student supplies that would be worthwhile to purchase during 
"back to school" sales events. In response to these parent requests, the 
Renfrew County District School Board has developed a listing of 
recommended materials: 


Primary(Grades 1- 3)


• 20 HB pencils
(not plastic or paper coated)
• 5 large glue sticks
• 3 bottle of white glue
• Waxed Crayons
Coloured pencils/pencil crayons
• 2 highlighter pens 
• 2 packages of Post-it notes (or, "sticky" notes) (small and plain) 
• Metric Ruler (measuring 30 cm, with millimetre markings) (Rigid Style) 
• 3 to 5 erasers 
• Scissors (blunted point) 
• Pencil case (soft, easy to open & able to store most items) 
• Pencil sharpener (with case to gather shavings)  • 3 duo-tangs (red, blue, yellow, green, orange) • 4 Two-pocket folders (look like duotangs but have pockets) • Lined paper (loose leaf) • 5-Excerise notebooks (e.g. Hilroy) • An extra pair of running shoes for indoor use, including gym class. (Non-platform soles and with white soles).

• Reinforcements for loose-leaf paper

SUNDAY NIGHT MESSAGE JUNE 16

GOOD EVENING. Deb Legault here with your Sunday Night message from General Lake. A big week of events this week at General Lake Public School.
On Monday, June 17 is the final day we will be accepting meal pre-order forms for our Year end celebration event.   More information and forms are available on our school blog www.generallakenews.blogspot.com. This Annual free family event will take place this Thursday from 4:30 until 6:30. We have Ray's reptiles, dancing in the gym, Mr. DImples balloon creations, face-painting and much more fun. Please make it a point to stop by and join in the fun, as General Lake celebrates another successful year. If you are available to volunteer with this event please contact the school. We still need volunteers.
Mme DeAbreu's and Mrs Langille's grade 5/6 class will be going on their class trip. Students need to arrive at the school at 7:50. Buses will be leaving at 8:00 am. Pack a peanut free lunch. Parents can pick up students at 5:00pm
Monday afternoon we have our dress rehearsal for our talent show beginning at 12:15. Students will be given an opportunity then to watch the show.
On Tuesday, June 18  at 12:15 parents are welcome to come to see our annual talent show beginning at 12:15.
On Wednesday, June 19 we will be having our Playday in the morning. Please ensure students are dressed appropriately for weather and they have a hat, sunscreen and waterbottle. 
On Thursday, June 20 we have a big day beginning with our Mini We day for our grade 3-8 students. This day is designed to inspire students to make a change in the world both locally and globally. Students will see performances and hear motivational speeches via video and live.  Students are asked to bring a food donation for the local food bank; some change for General Panet's humanitarian trip to Kenya; some change for CPAN; and if you have any snowsuits please send them along for CPAN. Lynne Smith from CPAN will be speaking at our WE day about the valuable work of CPAN and how the students can make a difference.  As always, parents are invited to attend this inspirational and fun-filled event and discover the power of WE.
On Thursday evening from 4:30-6:30  will be our Year End celebration
On Friday morning it's the staff versus the Grade 8 students in a friendly game of softball. Come on out and cheer for your favourite team at 10:30.
It's going to be a great week to be at General Lake.
Don't forget to check out our 'Boutique L and F' for those missing fashions, aka our lost and found. Items will be packed up and donated at the end of the year.

Mini GL WE day June 20

On June 20th General Lake Public School intermediate students are pleased to present their very first WE day. Inspired by their previous we day experience, students from General Lake are putting together a special program filled with inspirational videos from Craig and Marc Keilburger, Spencer West, and Molly Burke, special dances and singing performances from our very own General Lake students, as well as motivational speeches from  special guests.  The event is sure to inspire change in our Grade 3-8 students as well as showcase some of our very own school initiatives. Lots of music, dancing and fun will fill the gym as parents are welcome to join us for what is sure to be a very inspirational life changing day for our students. Guests are encouraged to bring a food item for our food drive as well as change for our coin drive for CPAN and General Panet's Humanitarian trip for 2013.  The event begins at 9:45 and continues throughout the morning. We break for lunch, then continue for another set.  WE are the change at General Lake!

Grade 8 ball makes us proud

Congratulations to the grade 8 ball team who made us proud on Friday June 7 at the 3 pitch tournament. The students had a fun day despite the poor weather and they played their very best and showed great sportsmanship. Way to go to the whole team who made us very proud Kyle Lambert, Daryl Sullivan McElroy,Wyatt Shamess, Katie Hambleton, Caynen Kyle, Kaitlin  Liam Jobe, Jada McInnis, Draven Jolicoueur, Mackenzie Holt,  Dominic Plamondon, Erin Stacey and the Eagle. SPecial thanks to Ms Calver and Mr. Blimkie for volunteering their time to coach the team.

Sunday Night Message June 9



Deb Legault here with the Sunday night update from General Lake Public School.  Last week the Sunday Night message was unable to be sent due to technical difficulties related to the launching of our new Board website.

Monday is a PA Day. 
Soccer for grade 6-8 students on Tuesday at 8 am  is cancelled, due to the track and field event at Dundonald Hall. 
Our last soccer with Ms Crouzat is on Thursday morning at 8:00 am.
On Tuesday the auditions continue with our grade 5 and 6 classes.
On Wednesday we hold auditions for any students that missed their day. On Wednesday June 12 we have our school Council Meeting at 6:00pm.
There are no longer any hot lunches for the remainder of the year. Thanks to our School Council and our parent volunteers for providing this valuable service to our community.

Bookfair Tremendous Success

The final numbers have just come in from our Scholastic Bookfair and we are extremely pleased to announce that we surpassed ourFall Book Fair with total sales of whopping $3974.38. Thank you to our wonderful General Lake School community for your tremendous support, as well as the volunteers who worked tirelesslessly to ensure that that Fair ran smoothly.  Sixty percent of the total will be returned to the school in product for our classrooms and our library.

Deb Legault here with the Sunday night update from General Lake Public School.  
This week beginning on Monday morning at 8:15 we have our Grade 8 softball practice, weather permitting.  Later that day we have our auditions for the Talent Show for our grade 7 and 8 students.  Monday evening a Sub-committee of our School Council will meet at 6:30 to discuss the end of the year celebration. 
On Tuesday and Thursday morning, we begin the day with our soccer club at 8:00 am, followed by track and field at 8:30.  Our EQAO continues for our grade 3 and grade 6 students on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
On Tuesday June 4 the Board Parent Involvement Committee will meet at the Board office at 6:15.
If you are interested in attending please contact Mme Major at the school. 

On Friday we hold auditions for our grade 3/4 students for our up and coming talent show. No hot lunch on this day, as last week was the last week.

The Book Tree in Petawawa!  This was a project originating from the Best Start Network and evolving many partners over the past year.  It is a wonderful opportunity to have books flow through hands and minds that wish to take advantage of this free resource and process.

Head Shave reminder for tomorrow May 31 at 1:00

Good evening.  Deb Legault here with a quick reminder that things will be getting hairy tomorrow at General Lake Public School as  Ethan and Jackson Alexander shave their heads to raise funds for Cancer tomorrow May 31 at 1:00pm as part of our monthly character assembly. As always, parents are welcome to attend this very exciting event. We encourage all students to bring along some change to contribute to the cause.  Parents are welcome to donate online.
