Sunday March 24, 2013

Good Evening Deb Legault with your Sunday Night message from General Lake.

First, On Tuesday, March 26 we have basketball for our grade 6-8 students at 8:15.  Later we have our Grade 6-8 Science Fair in the gym beginning at 12:15.  Judges will be on hand to evaluate the projects.  The winner will be encouraged to enter the Renfrew Regional competition on April 6.

Our Wednesday, March 27th French Club will be cancelled for this week. Jer's Vison will be at General Lake for a special presentation to our junior and intermediate students.  At 2:45, parents are welome to join us for our monthly character assembly.

On Tuesday March 26th and Wednesday March 27th some of Borden Ave will be closed  due to the presence of a crane and other heavy construction equipment assisting in the construction of new residences. Transportation has asked that parents not drive on Borden Ave in front of the school to either drop off or pick their kids up on these days given the increase in bus traffic.
There may also be a slight delay in drop off times in the afternoon for all students getting bused from General Lake P.S. due to the detour on the dates specified.
Students that are coming onto Borden Ave from Dundonald Dr are advised to use extra caution as there will be more bus traffic on these days. More details have been posted on the school blog.

On Thursday, March 28 we will have our final basketball club at 8:15. Special thanks to Mme Crouzat who has given her time to providing this opportunity for our students.  Later we  have our Primary/ Junior Science Fair at 12:15 in the gym.  Classes will be given an opportunity to visit the exhibits and, as always, parents are welcome to attend.

Don't forget to return those hot lunch order forms by Thursday, March 28 at the very latest and our Vesey's fundraiser order is due after the Easter break on April 2.

If you are sending in treats during the week please ensure they are clearly marked peanut free.  We also encourage to send in healthy snacks as General Lake promotes healthy eating in our school.

.
Enjoy the remainder of your evening.

Aboriginal Experience at General Lake

Staff and students were amazed and astounded as the stage production "Tales from Turtle Island" visited their school on March 7, 2013 to present Aboriginal Experiences.  Performers Jason Gullo, Beony John, Stephanie Sarazin and Rhonda Doxtale persented a traditional storytelling theatre and an interactive pow wow dance performance. This experience was brought to the school as part of the school's We Day promise to promote awareness of Aboriginal issues through the 'We Stand Together' initiative. Special thanks to the General Lake School Council and the support of the General Lake Community for bringing this opportunity

Re: Borden Ave closure March 26th 27th

The route the buses will be taking to drop off and pick up students is as follows:

Buses are to turn onto Borden Ave off of Dundonald Dr, once the buses are traveling on Borden Ave they will proceed to the entrance of the first parking lot on the left hand side after the school marked 1820-1834 Borden Ave where there will be a flagman provided by the construction company to help assist the drivers to back into the entrance to turn around for both the morning and afternoon runs. They will then turn right onto Borden and proceed to the Lay-By to drop off and pick-up students.  We will notify the bus company of these changes but share this with you if you have any concerns or comments.

We ask that parents not drive on Borden Ave in front of the school to either drop off or pick their kids up on these days given the increase in bus traffic.  There may be a slight delay in drop off times in the afternoon for all students getting bused from General Lake P.S. due to the detour on the dates specified.

Our recommendations for walkers/ cyclists are as follows:

  • Students that are approaching on Borden Ave coming from the direction of Wolfe Ave should be  advised that they are to use the entrance into the school yard at the back of the school by the play structure and parking lot numbered 1690-1711 Borden Ave.
  • Students that are coming onto Borden Ave from Dundonald Dr are to continue as they normally would but are to be advised to use extra caution as there will be more bus traffic on these days as the buses will be using this portion of Borden Ave to go to and from General Lake P.S.

On  March 26th and 27th students will not be able to travel completely around Borden Ave due to the presence of a crane and other heavy construction equipment assisting in the construction of new residences.

The construction of the new residences on Borden Ave is an ongoing project, so please expect these changes to be implemented again in the future. If you have any questions or recommendations please do not hesitate to contact the Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium.
