changes

I apologize for my tardiness, but with the snow day and the significantly decreased population at General Lake this week there has been a number of changes that were not posted on the Blog.
Please note the singalong was changed to 12:00 noon on Thursday. The character assembly was postponed to Friday, January 13....our first week back. Thanks for your patience and flexibility with these changes.

Concert Fills General Lake with the Spirit of the Holidays

It was standing room only left in the hall at General Lake as parents, friends and family packed themselves in to see the Annual Christmas Concert. Students and staff had obviously worked hard in the previous weeks to put together a wonderful variety of songs, plays and skits and it definetley paid off as all in attendance were thoroughly impressed and entertained. The Kindergartens from Mme Ouellette and Mme Spencer's began the event with a number of songs, followed by Mrs. Robillard 1/2 class with Up on the Housetop. Mme Gibson's 1/2 class performed two numbers, Jouer au Hockey and 4 Semaines c’est Noël , followed by Mme Kossatz' Grade 2's with Nez Rouge. Mrs. Graham & Mme Malette partnered up for the Reindeer Hokey Pokey, then Mrs. Norman's class amazed the audience with their rendition of Sleigh Ride. Mme Turgeon's class delighted the audience with Des Oeufs pour Noël, followed by Mme Bernardin with Pere Noël a engraisse. The singing was interrupted briefly with a great dramatic play called Gentil Pere Noel by Mme Grant's 5/6 class. Mrs. Ferguson's 4/5 class entertained with their comical version of The 12 Days of Christmas. Mme Yakabuskie's class returned us to another dramatic reading of Clara Bistouille et le père Noël. Then we were delighted with Mrs. Langille's classes version of Frosty the Snowman & some jokes that made everyone chuckle. As a finale, under the direction of Arts Teacher Ms. Hiltz students performed LAST CHRISTMAS, RUDOLPH and ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS. It was a fabulous afternoon of entertainment. Special thanks to organizers Ms. Hiltz, Mme. Grant and Ms. Legault for their dedication. Thanks to the Grade 7/8 leaders in Mme Haddad and Ms. Marquardt's classes who worked behind the scenes to make everything run so smoothly. Finally thanks to the MC's Jeris, Emily, Ali, and Daryl for keeping the program going and ad-libing so eloquently with a number of jokes and fillers.

Ornament Sale Wednesday to Raise funds for Plan Canada

On Wednesday December 21, Mrs Ferguson's grade 4/5 class will be selling Christmas tree ornaments made by the students, in order to raise money for Plan Canada. The ornaments will sell for $0.50, $1.00, and $2.00. The materials were very kindly donated, so all proceeds will go to the organization to purchase such things as chickens, goats, books, mosquito nets, medical supplies, etc. for people in developing countries. Once the class has counted the money they raise, the students will decide what they would like to purchase with the funds. Way to go Mrs. Ferguson's class for demonstrating caring for others in such a big way!

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day
On November 11, 2011 staff, students and parents joined together to show their respect to our military heroes. The Student-led Service began with an entrance from our official flagbearers, Liam Jobe and Matthew Wallace. Then the Masters of Ceremonies, Taylor Sullivan-McElroy and Cortlin Docken took over with inspiring words about courage and peace. The program included a moving reading of ‘ In Flander's Fields’ by Daryl Sullivan-McEnroy and MacKenzie Dunham; poetry readings from Ms Graham's Core English classes, and an original song from Mrs. Langille's Grade 5/6 Class. The Service ended as students paraded silently by 'Our Heroes' tribute and gave a quiet thank-you to all those that have served proudly for our country. Thank you to Mrs. Grant for providing the decorations, Mrs. Marquardt's class for leading the Service; and Ms Legault for coordinating the efforts. A special thank-you to all the parents who were able to join us in observance of this very special day. Also, as part of a General Lake tradition, students entered the Royal Canadian Legion’s poetry and poster contest. Quote of the Day

Remember that if the opportunities for great deeds should never come,
the opportunities for good deeds are renewed day by day. The thing
for us to long for is the goodness, not the glory.
